Healthy lifestyle: 10 easy things

Keeping fit and feeling good has become more and more of a challenge in the fast-forward and stressful times we live in today. The rundowns of every day, the maniac schedules, the 100 daily to-do lists, they all take a serious toll on our body and mind. Sooner or later and one way or another, we all experience fatigue, blue moods, tiredness, or burnout, getting fatter, body aches and generally feeling overwhelmed.

This article is not aiming at giving you a solution to everything. I’ll refer to 10 easy tips you can be mindful of to help you stay mentally and physically healthy during these crazy times. Here they are:

1. Eat Vegetables with Your Meals

Just pick any vegetable you like at the store, make a salad, or put some next to your meat or carbs. Vegetables help you digest and are full of important vitamins and minerals.

Buying Vegetables – Supermarket or Local Market?

Did you know it might be safer to buy vegetables from the supermarket because they follow strict rules? Local farmers might use too many chemicals to grow their crops. But if you know and trust your local farmer, that’s even better.

2. Drink Water

Our bodies are mostly water. It’s very important for everything inside us. You should drink 0.033 liters of water for every kilogram you weigh (e.g. if you weight 60 kg, then 0.033*60=1.98 liters). Remember, coffee and wine take water out of your body, so drink extra water when you have them.

3. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is so important, but we often forget it. Sleeping for at least 7 hours, and going to bed before midnight, helps your body and mind rest and get ready for the next day.

4. Walking

Walking 10,000 steps each day is good for two reasons: it keeps your body healthy, and it gets you out of the house for a break, which is super important.

5. Healthy lifestyle key-tip: GRATITUDE

Thinking about what you are thankful for is a good way to feel better. Do it in the morning or at night before bed. Think about the good things that happened and be happy for them.

6. Journaling

Writing down your thoughts helps clear your mind. Spend 15 minutes each morning writing and you will feel better. It’s a good way to start the day.

7. Talk About Your Feelings

It’s very important to feel good in your mind. If something is bothering you, find a friend or someone you trust and talk about it.

8. Do What You Love

Make sure to spend some time every day doing something you really enjoy. It can be for only 30 min, but it will make you feel good and give you energy.

9. Hygge it, especially during winter

Hygge is a Danish concept related to making all things around you cozy and reaching a state of wellbeing through everything you do. I’ve lived in Denmark for two years. Especially during wintertime, you do get to experience hygge without realizing it. Candles everywhere, warm drinks, lovely smells, quiet atmosphere, friendly people. A sense of calm and happiness around shops, streets, restaurants, and mostly, in people’s homes.

Especially if you are working from home, try to make your place nice and cozy. Have a clear work area and a separate relaxing area. And make sure to stop working at a good time to enjoy yourself.

10. Vitamin D

We get Vitamin D from the sun, but in winter we don’t see much sun. So, it might be good to take Vitamin D supplements. Ask your doctor about it.

Extra Tip: Eat Less Sugar and Drink Less Alcohol

Processed sugar and alcohol are not good for us. They make it hard for our bodies to work well. If you don’t feel good and don’t know why, try having less sugar and alcohol.

That’s all for now. I hope these tips help you to be healthy and keep your spirits up. Take care until next time!
